Spring Vernal Equinox and How to Celebrate it

The spring equinox is also known as the March or vernal equinox and has long been notable as a time of renewal and rebirth. The spring equinox is one of the four boundless solar festivals of the year. Day and night are equal, composed and balanced, but about to flip over on the side of light. The spring equinox is revered to dawn, youth, morning star and the east. Just as the dawn is the period of new light, so is the vernal equinox which is the period of new life. Several cultures celebrate spring festivals and holidays around the March equinox, like Easter and Passover. As an instance, Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the original complete moon that falls after the March Equinox. There are two equinoxes each year. One happens in March and the other happens in September. On the March equinox, the Sun shines openly on the equator and the length of day and night are believed to be equal. The spring vernal equinox usually occurs between the 20th and 22nd of March in the Northern Hemisphere because those in the Southern Hemisphere celebrate in September.

How to Celebrate the Spring Vernal Equinox?

GET OUTSIDE & CONNECT

Take some time to celebrate the fresh life that surrounds you in Mother Nature. Watch the sunrise and the sunset, go for a walk in the park, take a bike ride, lay in the grass, or take a trek. As you do so, witness all the new life beginning around you.

PLANT NEW LIFE

The spring equinox is known for rebirth, renewal, and growth. It is traditional for people to plant seeds in their garden on this day. This is a decent time of year to start planting your flowers and gardens if you haven’t already.

BRING SPRING INTO YOUR HOME

Pick or acquire a bouquet of spring flowers. Revive and refurbish your home and body with vital oils. There is nothing like a vital oil diffuser to bring the fresh scents of spring into the home.

PREPARE A FAMILY FEAST

No spring merriment is actually complete without a family meal to go along with it. For the solstice, celebrate with foods that respect the coming of spring. Food such as eggs, early spring greens, shoots, sprouts, seasonal local produce, local bread, wine can be used to celebrate this period.

HAVE OR ATTEND A BONFIRE

A bonfire is a good way to celebrate the equinox. Tell stories, sing, play music, dance, beat drums, and celebrate the spring.

ENJOY SPRING ARTS, CRAFTS, AND STEAM ACTIVITIES

Creating spring crafts is one of the best ways to welcome the season.

DECORATE EGGS

You can decorate some stilted Easter eggs for exhibition around your home. You can also add them to the Easter baskets and hide them for egg quests.

STAND AN EGG ON ITS END

Eggs are often connected with the spring equinox because they stand as a symbol of birth and fertility, and the myth that one can be balanced on its on that day probably relates to the day's re-balance of day and night. Legend has it that it is easy to stand an egg on its end during the spring vernal equinox.

RESTORE BALANCE IN THE HOME

Reestablish stability in the home by doing a spring deep cleaning. Get rid of litter and anything that you no longer required to make space for the new season.

BEGIN SOMETHING NEW

Equinox is a great time to let go of the old and begin things afresh. As the days start to grow longer and the temperatures begin to warm, people start to spend more time outdoors. It is the best time to start something new.

VISIT ANCIENT MONUMENTS

Many of the world's primeval monuments were erected as astrological datebooks, to map the movement of the Sun over the sequence of the year. The equinox is, therefore, the best time to visit these monuments, as they are regularly associated to make the most of the Sun's distinctive place in the sky.

There are countless ways to celebrate the spring equinox. Create something significant for you and your family and you enjoy this new beginning.
